Salmonsdam
Nature Reserve is a 17 km drive from Stanford.
The 834 ha Reserve is an Eden of magnificent
mountain scenery and fynbos. 'Fynbos is
the name for the rich variety of plants
characteristic of the Cape Floral Kingdom,
one of the world's six recognized botanical
regions. Fynbos is well represented in
this reserve and in spring the mountain
slopes blaze with colour.
Walker
Bay 4 x 4 Resort is the ideal way to enjoy
a half day drive or full day picnic/braai
or overnight stay to the barking of baboons,
with or without your 4 x 4. View the remains
of a limestone quarry and fresh water
crayfish farm or explore the Klein River
Mountains and discover the fynbos, ferns
and water pools.
Coastal
Kayak Trails offers various trails along
Walker Bay. Visitors can choose from 2
hour, half day, full moon, sunrise/set
trips or kayak rentals. One of the exciting
trails takes you along the Klein River
into the Lagoon at Hermanus. No rapids,
No white water, just incredible scenery
and excellent bird life.
Salmonsdam
Nature Reserve lies 20 km east of Stanford,
at the foot of the Perdeberg Mountains.
This reserve is renowned for its bird
life, mountain fynbos and beautiful waterfalls
and attracks bird watchers, hikers and
other nature enthusiasts. There are 3
hiking trails: Mountain Trail ~ leads
to a look-out with vies of Walker Bay,
Caledon and Bredasdorp (± 4 km,
2 hours) Ravine Trail ~ leads past interesting
rock formations and caves and small patches
of indigenous forest (± 3 km, 1,5
hours) and the Waterfall Trails ~ leads
through thick fynbos to the waterfall.
Indigenous trees such as Cape beech and
spoonwood will be seen (± 2 km,
1 hour). The reserve has 3 simple huts
and six camping sites.
Walker
Bay Nature Reserve consists of five coastal
areas. The main section stretches from
the Klein River estuary to De Kelders
at Gansbaai. Visitors are welcome to enjoy
hikes along the coast. Angling, swimming
and pickinicking are permitted. Fires
and overnight camping are not allowed.
Witvoetskloof
Farm is a working mountain fynbos farm
and visitors may see fynbos growing in
the wild, and then observing packshed
activities. Here you will see how beautifully
the natural product is prepared for export.
