Hottentots-Holland Nature Reserve / Palmiet hiking trail (2 hours) offers a self-guided hiking trail for the visually impaired and people confined to wheelchairs.

The Boland Hiking Trail starts at the Hottentots-Holland Nature Reserve. Various routes of one to three days, covering distances between 5 km and 50 km. Overnight huts are provided for hikers doing overnight routes.

Kloofing in the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve is a popular attraction among adventure seekers. The routes are open from November to the end of April and closed due to flooding in winter.

The Steenbras Dam and filtration plant is the main water supply for the Cape Metropole. The dam offers walking and mountain biking and a recreational area with the most beautiful views. Permits are required.

Mountain Passes: ~ Sir Lowry's Pass is the gateway to the Overberg and from its peak offers great views of the entire False Bay and large parts of the Cape Peninsula. ~ Viljoen's Pass is a short, scenic pass noted for the forest reserve at the summit and the deep gorge of the Palmiet River on the R321. ~ Houwhoek Pass, between Grabouw and Botriver offers spectacular fynbos views. Near the summit a road leads down to the Houw Hoek Inn, the oldest licensed hotel in South Africa.

Scenic Drives: ~ The Viljoenshoop Road to Duncan's Roses is very beautiful, especially in November when the roses are in full bloom. Farmers plant roses along the fences because they will show the first signs of any of the diseases that might affect the fruit. ~ Drive along the Viljoenshoop Road and turn left into the Valley Road, keep straight on over the mountain down to the R44 (Kleinmond Road) The drive will take you through pine plantations and magnificent fynbos. The route over the mountain is gravel, but is in a fairly good condition.

Klein Paradys Equestrian Centre in nearby Bot River offers a wide variety of different rides - tailored to suit individual abilities and requirements. A very popular ride is the half day trail to the Houw Hoek Inn for tea/lunch. Suitable for inexperienced or experienced riders.

Apples and Roses Tours commence from Grabouw. These tailor-made tours can include a trip to a pear and apple picking plant and coldroom storage facility. Tractor rides on fruit farms or just a scenic educational tour. Bookings are essential.
