apply. Galjoen has a closed season.
Dive
for abalone (perlemoen), rock lobster,
alikreukel, venus ear, black mussel, white
mussel, limpet, periwinkle, octopus, bloodworm,
red bait, sea urchin, oyster. Please note
a permit is required for harvesting any
marine species and restrictions apply.
Abalone and Rock Lobster have a closed
season.
Enjoy
bird watching along the Betty's Bay coast.
On the rocks and beaches a variety of
cormorants and gulls can be found.
Amongst
the rock pools Egyptian Geese, Little
Egrets, Cape Wagtails and a variety of
swallows and swifts are often seen. The
Black Oyster Catchers and Whitefronted
plovers are often seen.
The
Blue Mantled Flycatcher is found in the
Harold Porter Botanical Gardens. This
area offers a good bird watching experience
with the riverine vegetation adding to
other interesting habitats.
In
the mountains raptors are well represented.
Black and Martial Eagles, Black Sparrow
Hawks, Jackal Buzzard, the migrant Steppe
Buzzard and Black Shouldered Kites can
be spotted flying high above the valleys
and peaks.
The
coastal vegetation supports a large variety
of birds, mainly seed eating such as the
Cape Bulbul, Rameron Pigeon, Speckled
moosebird and Grass bird.
Hike
the Leopard's Gorge Trail or up to Disakloof
Waterfall in the Botanical Gardens.
Hike
in the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve. Permits
are needed for day hikes and overnight
trails.
Mountain
Bike a 36 km trail through the Kogelberg
Biosphere Reserve. This trail is only
for the fit mountain biker with lots of
endurance.
Sandboard
on Silversands Dunes.
Snorkel
around the rock pools and crevices along
the beach.
The
varied coastline, (especially at Main
and Silversands Beach) offers perfect
swimming, surfing, fishing or diving opportunities.
Enjoy
watching the whales from the shoreline.
(May to December) The Southern Right and
Humpback whales are easily visible from
the shoreline from Rooiels to Kleinmond.
Dolphins and seals are also frequent visitors.
White
Water Rafting, Tubing and canoeing on
the Palmiet River, Kogelberg will provide
adventure seekers with some adrenalin.
Be sure to find it there. Trips run the
whole year through.
Other
active sports such as tennis, golf, bowls
and jukskei are available in the neighboring
town Kleinmond.
